LESSON #5
THE NEED OF THE MORALIST
ROMANS CHAPTER 2;1-16 PART 6
Condemned by his own judgment, 2;1
1. Therefore thou art inexcusable O man; whosoever thou art that judgest; for wherein thou judgest another, thou condemnest thyself; for thou that judgest doest the same things;
Who is he talking to here? He is telling the unsaved moralist, who knows what he is doing is sin and goes ahead and does it anyway. Jas 4.17 says ?To them that know to do good and doeth it not to them it is sin? But I'm sure it is not as serious sin as these that Paul is speaking of here. Paul is talking to the unsaved, and James is speaking to lazy Christians.
The man who says thou shalt not steal and all the time he is stealing. Like the top people of our government, our police force.. He is not talking to the Christian. Although if you are doing the same things the unsaved are then you are included in this too. A Christian should not judge another man's servant. It is God's place to do the judging. Paul had a crowd of men that would say AMEN to that and go out and do the same thing. OH! How we have them around today who will cry out against the moral state of our nation and then go and do the same things.
The Christian however can with the help of the Holy Spirit, discern between the saved and the lost. The Bible teaches you to judge a tree by it's fruit weather it be good or bad. The moralist is inexcusable when he judges the heathen and can not see his own sin. Even the moralist that Paul is talking about here needs salvation. He needs to be born again. The moralist is the self-righteous Pharisees of our day they think they are doing God a favor by condemning the Heathen. There are a lot of good organizations, doing a great work with the poor of our country. Which is the churches responsibility, and they have failed in it.
There fore the Lodges have started doing a work the church should be doing. Chapt 2;2 We are sure that the judgment of God is according to the truth against them which commit such things .V-3. And thinkest thou this, O man, that judgest them that do such things, and thou doest the same, that thou shalt escape the judgment of God. . V-2,3,4 he is talking to the man that knows the goodness of God Who has been confronted with the gospel and has refused it, or made a false profession. Any way he is one who is playing games with God, V-4 or despisest thou the riches of his goodness and forbearance, and long suffering, not knowing that the goodness of god leadeth thee to repentance. Knowing that God is long suffering and some do not know that the goodness of God is leading them to repentance. They are like the one we talked about before whose motive is not right, they go through the motions, but are looking for prestige, and personal gain. Perhaps the moral man did not commit adultery, but did he lust?? The Lord put them in the same category. Maybe the moral man did not steal ,but did he covet?? Or maybe he did not commit murder but did he hate his brother,
VERSE :5 But after the hardness and impenitent heart treasurest up unto thy self wrath and against the day of wrath and revelation of the judgment of God. V- 6. Who will render to every man according to his deeds. God is no respecter of persons, he will render to every man his just due. The moralist, the unsaved and the saved can lay up wrath against them selves, only difference is the unsaved need to get saved, the moralist needs to get saved, and the saved needs to get right with God. Regenerated man who sins can get forgiveness ,and stand clean before God because of the blood of Jesus Christ, But the unsaved can not. The only prayer God wants to hear from a sinner is God be merciful to me a sinner and save me for Jesus sake.
V-7 Paul again shows the difference between the saved and the unsaved. V-7 is speaking to the Christian who waits patiently and does the work of his Lord, and looking for his return whereby he will receive his reward, immortality and eternal life. Where as V-8 is speaking to the unsaved. Who are contentious and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness, then he is heaping up for himself indignation, and wrath in the judgment. V- 9,10 follow the same contrast. Then in V-11 he says God is no respecter of persons.
Verse 12-16 Paul is still talking about the unsaved man ,one who, has the law and thinks he is saved by it, V-13, Both sides of the law still left out some thing, in the old testament they had the law and would live by the law for a while, and when they sinned, God had set up a way they could get forgiven for their sin. By sacrifices. And those of Israel knew that some day God would provide HIMSELF a sacrifice for the whole world. Paul in V-11 is talking about the unregenerate man.
Both Jew and Gentile, all are sinners all need salvation There is not a just man upon the earth, there is none that doeth good no not one. As we will see later in Rom.3; V-14 The uncircumcised gentile has within him a conscience that told him when he was doing something wrong, they didnt make sacrifices to atone for the sin, they made excuses, V-15 .And what Paul is saying in 16 is that in that day when God will judge the secrets of men, the excuses will not stand, who will be able to stand in the judgment of God?? Who will be able to stand in the righteous judgment?? ONLY THOSE WHO ARE CLOTHED IN THE ROBE OF RIGHTEOUSNESS OF JESUS CHRIST V-15 Their conscience would bare witness to the sin, and their thought would accuse them and then make excuses for them.
The sinner of today does the same thing, His conscience will condemn his for a sin and then he thinks about it for a while He is accused by his mind and knows what he does is wrong, and then the same mind will make an excuse for it. And he goes on through life with the sin intact. Not knowing he can get it forgiven and washed completely a way by the BLOOD of the LORD JESUS CHRIST. Christians now days are dropping the ball they are not witnessing like they should (me included), Today some tell them if they just believe in God, they can do what ever they like and they will still be alright. And in our society there are millions who believe there is a God, and are living like the devil, and he likes that, he has millions deceived. He tells people that there is a God, (because he believes it) But that he is a God of love and as long as your intentions are good you will be alright. He is transforming himself into an angel of light to a lot of people. I heard on the news , a man died and the newsman said God took him, I dont know about that, because the man was a dope addict a pusher and a murder. And probably into ever conceivable sin you could think of.. I do Know one thing If he was saved, God and only God could turn the body over to Satan for destruction, that the soul may be saved in the day of Judgment. If not then he went straight to hell, like the Bible teaches.
