LESSON #8 CHAPTER V
PART 8 ROMANS 5:1-5
“SEVEN RESULTS OF JUSTIFICATION”
C.I. Scofield list seven results of justification, they cover the rest of the book of Romans. Some of the things said here in chapter five, we have already said something about, so we might repeat our self some, but then again maybe we need to hear it twice. Being justified by faith brings the peace of God .A way you can know you are saved, do you have it. This is a positive statement here in Rom.5;1.He is not talking to doubters, but to those who are saved and know it. 5: V-2 by whom (The Lord Jesus) also we have access into this grace wherein we stand, By Faith in Jesus Christ you have access to every thing God has, and you can rejoice in the hope of the glory of God, Jesus said in Matt.6;32,33.Your Father in Heaven knoweth what ye have need of ,BUT seek ye first the Kingdom of God, and his righteousness and all these things WILL be added unto you. Your faith is the KEY. You have access to the very portals of Glory. You have all that Jesus has, eternal life, comfort now and in the world to come, peace with God and man, a home in Heaven when you die, John14;1-6.
You are heir to all that Jesus is, you have peace, you have a home in Heaven, you have eternal life. And no matter what happens in your life you can not change that. While you were YET in your sin God sent his Son to die for you.
All men by nature are children of wrath, V-9 But we being justified by faith in the blood of Jesus Christ will be saved from wrath, this is the promise in verse 9. So while now we can enjoy all the blessing and joy of being a Christian, we also will be kept from wrath. God has reserved wrath for his enemies, the Up to now in the previous chapters Paul has shown the contrast between
1. Adam and Christ.
2. Between condemnation and justification
3. Between disobedience and obedience,
4 Between the law and Grace.
5. Between death and life.
This one man Adam brought sin upon the human race by disobedience. Notice that it was only one act of sin that brought God’s displeasure, and allowed death to come.5;12-21 Paul shows the contrast between the sinner and the saint. 12-14 he talks about the sin of Adam bringing in death. And plainly states in 12 that all men are born sinners, But then in 15-21 he shows that you do not have to remain a sinner, there is a way out, and God provided it, in the person of his Son the Lord Jesus Christ. Verse 15 but not as the offence, so also is the free gift, you dear reader had nothing to do with being a sinner, But you do have a choice of being a saint, by excepting the free gift. V- 19 for by the offence of one many (all) were made sinners, and by the obedience of one many, (your choice) will be made righteous. I like V-21 That just as sin reigned unto death, so grace will reign through righteousness to eternal life. HOW? By Jesus Christ our Lord.
CHAPTER VI
“DELIVERANCE FROM THE POWER OF INDWELLING SIN”
BY UNION WITH CHRIST AN THE DEATH AND RESURRECTION
CHAPT.6: 1-6. Some preach that this doctrine of Justification is a dangerous doctrine, Because it gives one a license to sin, and many people go on that assumption that if you are saved you don’t have to worry if you sin, But one who is truly saved by the blood of Jesus has his want to, changed, if you are truly a Son of God then you don’t want to do any thing against God because you love him. How many of you want to hurt someone you love. Jesus loves you so much he would do nothing to harm you. V-2 Paul says GOD FORBID If you are a child of God how can you even think of sinning against him. Being adopted into the family of God, why would you want to hurt anyone in your family, especially your Father. That is the theme Paul is trying to tell people in these verses. We can not continue in sin because through our identification with Christ we are DEAD to “SIN”. We are to be just as DEAD to sin as if we had died on Calvary that day.
V-4 is not speaking of water baptism, But being baptized, by water, shows the world that the Christian has been justified, and symbolically raised from the dead with Christ. When one is saved he is planted (baptized) into the body of Christ by the Holy Spirit. If one believes the bible here in V-6 were it says you are dead with Christ, and you have showed the world by baptism that you believe it, then think for a minute, what it must do to the Father when you go out and commit sins. V-6 “Knowing this then “ Knowing what? That in verse 4,5 you have shown the world that your old man is dead. That the body of sin, (the sin nature ) is destroyed, Henceforth we should not serve sin.V-7.for he that is dead is free from “SIN”.
C.I.Scofield says in his notes on Rom.3;23 Speaking of sin,#2 That sin has three stages. It is an ACT, it is a STATE, it is a NATURE at enmity with God. Eph.2;15 says “ Having abolished in his flesh the ENMITY, even the law of commandments contained in the ordinances.” The Bible says that the natural with his natural mind (nature) is at enmity with God. For it is not subject to the law of God neither can be. V8, So then they that are in the flesh can not please God. So how can any one with a sin nature still intact, please God? You can not!!!
But then V-9,Paul says BUT YE ARE NOT IN THE FLESH, BUT IN THE SPIRIT, IF SO BE THAT THE SPIRIT OF GOD DWELL IN YOU, NOW IF ANY MAN HAVE NOT THE SPIRIT OF GOD HE IS NONE OF HIS.
The scripture here is as plain as the nose on your face, so to speak. How pray tell, can a CHRISTIAN, please God if he still has that enmity (nature or mind), with God. This explains why we see so much ungodly living in the churches today. Satan goes to church too, you know.
Including the words crucified an died, In verses 1-13 Paul uses the word DEAD 12 times. We as Christians need to realize what the word dead means, GRAVEYARD DEAD) I don’t believe most Christians fully realize what the word death in theses verses mean, just because it doesn’t say the body dies is no reason to say that it does not mean death here. From 6;6 to 7;6 Paul is talking about the death of something, what is it??? IT IS THE OLD MAN. It is a spiritual death. AND IT IS A SPIRIT THAT DIES WHEN YOU GET SAVED.. WHAT SPIRIT?? , THE NATURAL SPIRIT.
In these verses we find three very IMPORTANT words, they are in V-11 "RECKON YE”, v-3,6,9, “KNOW YE”, and in V-13 the word ’YIELD YE” All three of these become effective in the life of a Christian. To reckon is to know beyond any shadow of doubt that you have yielded your all to CHRIST. That is when the OLD MAN becomes dead and you become born again. NOT BEFORE!!!!
