"WHY THE GAP THEORY"

Just what is the Gap theory??? The gap theory concerns a supposed gap between Gen.1:1 and Gen. 1:2 And it is just a theory: an unproven theory. and unprovable theory. The word of God does not say anything about a gap theory any where in the Bible.
The "Gap Theory" briefly is this, Between Gen 1:1 and 1:2 some say (and we will prove why they say it) that some sort of disaster occurred which plunged the earth into chaos and darkness. Yet in the same sentance they will say God makes allthings perfect. They say that this disaster was Judgment form God against Satan. they say then the earth lay desolate for untold aeons, until God made up his mind to recreate and refashion the earth as it is today. Commencing with Genesis 1:3.
The Scofield Reference Bible places a notation between Gen 1:1 and 1:2 which reads "Earth made waste and empty by judgment" That is the Gap theory in a nutshell.
        Now, folks I have hashed this thing out before, I don't know if I ever put it on the Internet, but something has come up just in the last days that has mad e me think I have to do it again, because someone was not listening the first time.       And we have all kinds of young preachers running around preaching false doctrine because they do not understand were it is coming from and who it is that is teaching them. Creation -Science is behind it, and when I get done you will realize that Satan has crept in at the very beginning, Most creation-sience people believe they are absolutely right in what they preach., But then so do the Jehovah Witnesses. and The Ted Armstrong's, and most all the occults. I think most KJV bible believing Christian will agree with me that "The only infallible thing on earth is the Word of God, and when quoted then absolute truth is being spoken, However, When it is interpreted or expounded upon that is a different story. Opinions and beliefs have a way of creeping into what one believes to be truth. Thus Paul warns "Try the spirits" "Prove all things" !Thess 5:21.
        Every thing any man teaches (This writer included) should be checked out by the real truth. The word of God. The Bible commanded the Bereans "In that they received the Word of God with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily whether those things were so" Acts !7:11. They even checked out ever thing that the apostle Paul said to them, How much more should we check out every thing we hear.
        Now to get on to the heart of the matter, Why did the Gap theory start, It was not started by Jesus!!!!. He did not ever mention it. And people have since the beginning of time been try to find a way to discredit the word of God and so far they have not, to the born again child of God. The very elect of God will not be deceived, Why???? Because he is daily in the Word of God and God speaks to him through His Word. So why would one want to find something to discredit the Word of God, Satan was behind the Man. Who was that Man???? His name was Thomas Chalmers, who lived in the early nineteenth century, He was the first to mention that there could be a Gap between Gen 1:1 and Gen 1:2. This writer has found no evidence of any one saying any thing about the Gap theory before Thomas Chalmers. There is no such evidence in the ancient manuscripts, such as Josephus. or any other writer.
Chalmers whole theory was based on a supposed mistranslation of the word WAS in verse 2; "And the earth was without void" Chalmers said the word was should have been translated "BECAME" instead of was. in other words Chalmers believed that the earth Became void and without form, and he built his whole theory the belief that there was a mistranslation in the Bible, and I ask the question again here is any one of you greater than the Holy Spirit. If we believe this Book then we must believe he God the Holy Spirit wrote it. 2Ti 3:16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: Now we will show you why the Gap theory is a trick of the devil to discredit the Word of God
        Thomas Chalmers was born in 1780 in England he died in 1847. He was a contemporary with Charles Darwin, who was born in 1809 and died in 1883. Chalmers would have had access to Darwin's earlier writing, Many a nineteenth century theologian was influenced by Darwin. Thus producing many attempts to reconcile the Genesis account of Creation with sience(Falsely so called), especially geologic time tables and evolution. Darwin was educated at Edinburgh University, but was transferred to Christ Church Collage, at Cambridge, were he graduated in 1831, Chalmers served as a professor if theology at Edinburgh University from 1828 to 1843. In all likely hood Chalmers personally knew Charles Darwin from his University days.
        A lot of Bible believing Christians believe the Gap theory. Even though they do not believe Gen 1:2 is mistranslated. However those Christians should realize that the first one to propose this theory based on what he considered to be a mistranslation of the word of God. Hence the theory was originally put forth as a correction to the King James Bible, And Thomas Chalmers had to correct the Holy Bible in order to teach his theory.
Now the Bible commentary By Jammiest, Fausset and Brown, published in the late nineteenth century, alludes to this supposed Gap theory in its comments on Gen 1:2. now we see three other men entering into the picture. the commentary was written by Samisen who was born in 1802 and died in 1880. and Jammiest received his education at Edinburgh University at about the same time as Chalmers, and Darwin. having graduated before 1837, and possible at the same time as Darwin.
        "Earth's Earliest Ages" A book written by George Pember, was first published in 1876 Seventeen years after the publication of Darwin's "The Origin of the Species" (1859) Following the findings of Chalmers, Pember built an elaborate case solely on speculation. and Darwin's Theory of evolution.
Now in 1909 C. I Scofield and Clarence Larkin picked up on the theory in the early twentieth century. The printed works of these two men are excellent studies and are not to be trashed, But we remind the reader that they are men. and thus must be checked out by the Word Of God. Just because these men are wrong on a theory, is no reason to trash their works. We have to learn to eat the fish and spit out the bones. Make sure the scripture confirms what is being taught. Arthur W. Pink followed suit in 1922, with his Book on "Gleaning through Genesis'" and on down the line Pink was a Calvinist!!!
        A hundred years now in the mid twentieth century, since Chalmers stated this Gap theory, it spread among many prominent Protestants, Tow of whom we will note here, Merrill F Unger was professor of Dallas theological Seminary died 1980. and a well known Arthur Donald Grey Barhouse. he died in 1960. It has also begun to weave it's way into the independent Baptists. A lot of people have picked up on Chalmers and rightly they should give him credit. for he is the man who started this ball for the devil rolling.
        O.K. Now we will get into why it is so devastating to our Churches today. Here is were the (Creation-science) comes in.
        The fact that Chalmers was a contemporary of Charles Darwin, is very important to understanding why the Gap theory was developed in the first place. One of the reasons Westcott and Hort were able to pull of the Revised Version of 1881 Thus beginning a century's long avalanche of tampering with the Word Of God. The climate that had been opened in England by Darwin's theory of evolution that same climate opened the door for the Gap Theory. Why?
Darwin served as a naturalist for his government, Sailing around the world on exploration expedition from 1831 to 1836 in a ship called "Beagle" That was when he collected all his data about different animals and plants, and made his comparisons and drawings. His extensive research would then become his finalized theory of evolution. His observations were edited by him and published by the British Government.1840-1843 under a title Zoology of the voyage of H.M.S. Beagle.
        As one history (The Wycliffe Biographical Dictionary of the Church) states, Darwin's theories tended to make the accepted Christian faith of that day untenable for many Christians. That means that Christian of that day had a hard time defending their faith concerning creation, against the evolution
theories of Darwin. which were promoted by the British Government.
Thus the work of Chalmers: Institutes of theology. Was published by the government in 1843-1847. that seems quite significant, Now comes a long the Creation-science theory, His books came out after the publications of Darwin's conclusions from his voyage on the Beagle. Were did Chalmers get the theory of a time gap between the first two verse of Genesis????. What caused him to decide that something must be out of order with the Bible? Knowing that the Hebrew word for was is often (98%) of the time translated was, Why did it's translation in Genesis suddenly become suspect unto him. While he remained unconcerned about the hundreds of times in the Pentateuch (258 out of 264) it was translated was.
        For some 300 years scientists like Galileo, Leeuwenhook, and others had been throwing mud in the face of the orthodox church of England. For example The church (not the Bible) had taught that the earth was flat, they were proven wrong, the church (not the Bible) taught that the earth was the center of the universe, they were proven wrong, The church had been so adamant in it's teaching and scientific statements that one feared for his life if he spoke out against the church. This was the government run and government owned church of England. Why do you think so many Christians came to America during that time they were persecuted by the church and the government?
Now here comes along a scientist, (Creation-scientist) by the name of Thomas Chalmers. With all sorts of documented evidence and with the government financing his research and publishing his books. The church had lost face, many times, what was it to do now? No doubt, the theologians of the day said "Lets not be to hasty in condemning Mr Darwin" If he is right (doubt) there must be something in the Word of God to corroborate his discoveries. And since the Bible did not corroborate Darwin, something that would make room for all the geologicalages proposed by evolutionist had to be found, Chalmers Found it:::::: in what he considered a mistranslation of the Word of God. Now the church and the government are beginning to reconcile the Creation story in Genesis 1; with the theory of evolution. thus the (False) Creation-science was born. The church had to find a way to reconcile them or kill half it's congregation. That is exactly what is happening to Christians in America today. Preachers are killing their people with false doctrine. today the creation- science has so blinded Christians because they see an easy excuse for the dinosaurs that their kids like to watch on TV and it all began 200 years ago in England, It took the devil 100 years to make England believe his lies, and he is still working on America, and if you do not believe that read you news paper in the morning or turn on your TV.
        We are going to go a little further with this, because I think it is important that our young people see this and realize they are being had.
"Thus the purpose of the Gap theory" was to harmonize the Bible (The Word of God) with the excepted scientific teaching of evolution.
        It was originally formulated by those nineteenth century men who could not reconcile their belief in Genesis with the scientific evidence of Darwin. The gap theory is nothing more or less than an attempt to harmonize Moses with Charles Darwin. The purpose has and is always to try to harmonize Biblical account of creation with the accepted system of geological ages.
        Every reputable Scientist before the nineteenth century--- People like Sir Isaac Newton and Galileo believed the earth was no more than six thousand years old. We search in vain to find one man (scientist who believed the earth was over six thousand years old before Chalmers and Darwin came out with their false scientific evolution,. The reason they believed that was because they believed the Bible to be the Word of God. And right here I would caution the believer to do the same, remember this book was written by men of old as it was given by the Holy Ghost. And it was around hundreds of years before Darwin and Chalmers. Any time you hear a man on TV or Radio say that the earth is over at least 7,000 years old, you better leave that man a lone and not listen to Him.
All the Gap theorist accommodate millions of years for the age of the earth. They all accommodate evolution,!!!! Every writer, right up to the present day who defends the Gap Theory, gives place to the (devil) evolutionists. whether they believe in evolution or not. Read the books on it and the truth of that statement will be more evident. The Gap theory is an attempt to harmonize what strongly appeared in the latter half of the nineteenth century to be valid science. But the truth is it was science falsely called.
        To day the new age movement is connecting up with the creation-scientists to draw out young people away from the word of God, While the churches sit and do nothing, The church has been lulled to sleep by Satan, He is still doing and even working harder to condemn your children to Hell. .
Back in the old testament. It only took one man, surrendered to Almighty God to change the course of a nation. as far as I read in the bible of old the old testament prophets stood alone. Against the false prophets and kings and princes of their time. it Only took one women to get prayer out of schools, it only took one man to tell king David of his sin. It only took one man to turn the church of England into evolutionists. But he did it.
How much could one man fully surrendered to God do for God today. God only knows, cause we don't see anyone stepping up to the plate.
